Inspirational Michael Max Castle honoured with Diana Award

Michael Max Castle, a student at Croydon College, has won a (Princess) Diana Award for his work in the local community at a special event held at the University of Westminster, hosted by Esther Rantzen. The Diana Award gives public recognition to young people who make a profound difference to the lives of their friends, families, schools and communities.

Michael was nominated for the award by Croydon College because of his exceptional work in trying to help stamp out bullying and his determination to see projects through. He has been a peer mentor for the past two years and is currently trying to establish a new youth club in Croydon town centre and would like to hear the views of other young people.

Receiving a Diana Award is just the beginning; award Holders are given access to a developing and life-long alumni programme to support their personal development and their continuing involvement in community projects. The Diana Award is valued highly by their holders because they never expect to receive this kind of recognition for their work. Young people are put forward by their schools, education authorities or youth organisations for Awards.

At the awards ceremony; Maggie Turner, Director of the Diana Award said: “We would like to congratulate all our Award Holders from London. All too often we hear about the negative aspect of young people. The Diana Award identifies positive role models that challenges these existing stereotypes of young people, and gives them public recognition at a time when their life choices are still to be made, encouraging them to develop to their full potential.”
