Croydon Skills and Enterprise College Secures South London Contract for Skills for Jobs
Croydon Skills and Enterprise College (which forms part of Croydon College) has secured the South London contract for Skills for Jobs which is worth approximately half a million pounds. The College will be working in close partnership with regional skills and employment agencies (see below for a list of partners).
The innovative project will provide a virtual ‘Employment One Stop Shop’ for local people which will link up a variety of specialist agencies who provide training and support for unemeployed adults in South London. The project will particularly focus on supporting people who experience significant barriers to gaining skills and employment including: people from black and ethnic minority communities, lone parents, people who are over 50 and people who have a learning or physical disability. Potential students will be identified through referrals between the partners involved in this initiative, which will cover the following five regional growth industries: Care, Child Care, Construction, Hospitality and Retail.
Croydon Skills and Enterprise College, set up last year as part of Croydon College to respond directly to the training needs of the local community and employers, is fast establishing a reputation as a quality provider of relevant vocational training.
Already recognised as a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) in both Building Services Engineering and Hospitality and Catering training, Croydon College, with its tailored three college approach, is well placed to deliver these training contracts.
Claire Parry, Managing Director of Croydon Skills and Enterprise College, explained: “We are delighted to have been provided with the opportunity to take the lead on this partnership which will help adults to gain employment and continue to provide them with support and training as they build their careers. Croydon Skills and Enterprise College was set up to deliver exactly this sort of demand-led vocational training and I am thrilled that the Learning and Skills Council have recognised our ability to lead on this initiative. I look forward to us winning more contracts such as this.”
