Another £33 million investment in new facilities at Croydon College

Work will start on the refurbishment and extension of facilities at Croydon College on Monday 11th August. The £33 million pound capital investment project is part of an ongoing programme at the College designed to ensure the College is at the forefront of training and education in South London.

The new phase in the redevelopment will see the complete refurbishment of the third and fourth floors and a considerable extension to the Fairfield building. When completed this new space will provide a state-of-the-art Learning Resource Centre and more social and learning space designed to encourage more self-directed and group study opportunities for students. The new facilities will also enhance the learning experience for students of the performing arts with the provision of a new performance hall and industry specification recording studios.

The initial phase of refurbishment has seen £15 million spent on development of shared facilities such as a new refectory for students and staff; industry standard hairdressing and beauty salons; a new suite of construction and engineering workshops; and the opening of Chefs Restaurant and Bar, with the best training kitchens available, and where the public can sample the culinary delights prepared by the students.

Mariane Cavalli, the College Principal said; "The start of this next phase of work is yet another milestone in the continuing development of Croydon College.

This is a major project which will transform the College and provide leading-edge facilities for Croydon. This is not a facelift; it is about providing a learning space that will change the way students and staff interact. It will provide some of the best facilities in London and enable us to continue delivering the training needed by both residents and businesses in South London at every level; from entry to post-graduate.

The environment that this project will deliver will reflect that of top London businesses, demonstrating our commitment to providing our learners with the skills and training to get themselves the job of their dreams.  Additionally this development will provide a landmark feature in the centre of Croydon, proving how serious we are about both our, and the Borough's future."

The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2009.
